Intercostal Nerve Block

The intercostal nerves are a bundle of nerve fibers that run underneath the ribs. The intercostal nerves provide innervation to the thoracic region and abdomen of the body. An intercostal nerve block can control pain by placing an antiinflammatory medication near the area of the inflamed or irritated nerve bundle.

How It Helps

An intercostal nerve block is typically used to treat pain secondary to conditions like shingles, post-herpetic neuralgia, intercostal neuralgia and post-incisional pains.
