Sympathetic Nerve Block
The sympathetic nervous system is a specialized part of the nervous system that controls what is often referred to as the fight or flight response. Certain pain conditions can be mediated by the sympathetic nervous system. A sympathetic nerve block involves injecting numbing medicine around the sympathetic nerves to diagnose or treat the pain.
How It Helps
A sympathetic nerve block can be used to treat a variety of conditions related to the sympathetic nervous system including complex regional pain syndrome or reflex sympathetic dystrophy as well as peripheral vascular disease.
